GREAT weekend.

We were able to go to Tuscaloosa last weekend to visit great friends and celebrate an engagement of a very sweet couple.  It was one of the best weekends I've had in a while and without boring you with all the details of it, let me just say I am SO grateful for the friendships I was blessed with there.  The short 2 1/2 days felt like a whole week because we packed in so much.  Normally, that kind of thing would exhaust me!  But admittedly, I have been slightly deprived of adult conversation so I was eating up every moment with EVERYONE :).  I hate we didn't take more pictures, but here are a few when we were at UA campus with some great friends.
Bethany and I with the very smiley Luke :)

Our new favorite thing to do..... make a LUKE SANDWICH :)
Don't let that smushed face fool you.  He likes it too :)

Hope y'all had a great weekend too!
I'm about to begin another one as soon as my college buds, Sarah and Rachel get here!!!  Can't wait!

Valentines Day Recap {2011}

I made these cute Red Velvet Whoopie pies for Eric.
He LOVES red velvet cake and I love baking- happy Valentines Day to both of us :)

Another version of the whoopie pies I tried today :)

I saw this next idea for Eric HERE.
He a big fan orange crush which of corse tastes better in a glass bottle.

If you can't see that conversation bubble it says, "We've got a crush on you".

I also got to make trips to my Dad's office and my Mom's school to drop off a little Valentines LOVE from Luke and I.  Unfortunately, Luke was sleeping when we finally made it to my Mom's school, so no pics with Nana today.  Next time I'll go to your school first, OK Mom :).

The way to a Man's heart...

Need some yummy desserts for your sweetie that say, "I Loooove You"?
Check these out...
First up, this gorgeous red velvet cheesecake.  Me-thinks-he-will-likey.

How about the always easy brownie turned into the ever trendy cupcake?
Nothing says I love you like heart shaped breakfast in bed...

These remind me of those yummy hostess snacks,
but much more poignant for Valentines Day, don't you think?

Eggs in a heart-shaped basket = love.
Now these are the way into my heart!  CHOCOLATE LAVA CAKE... yes please!
I'm working on a special little Valentines Day treat for my sweet-heart, but I can't reveal it here just yet.  I'll post my G rated sweet treat for my husband after V-day.
Happy making and baking :)!

winter blues

Yes, even us southern folk are experiencing gray, cold, wintery days that are unusual for this time of year.  Normally, we'd be experiencing sunny 40-50 degree weather in February.  But alas, it is 19 degrees outside and snowing.
These wintery blues leave me feeling restless.  My house is still unfinished and very cold!  I would like to purchase a few items for my home to help get myself out of the funk I am currently in.  Shopping helps me.  Buying things for my home is especially helpful.
I have been on the hunt for a distressed wooden tray for my buffet table... I like these but I'm still hunting.
I also need some lighting.  The house we are currently renting does not have a fixture for the dining area.  Very dark indeed.  I would possibly like one of these to hang over my dining room table.

I guess since I don't have any money to spend I could try this one.
DIY I saw on Design Sponge I think I could attempt...  with probably laughable results.
 Hmmmphh.
My winter blues talkin' again.
What are some things you do to get out of your winter depression?

Happy Birthday Mom!

My Mom's birthday was January 30th and we finally celebrated it last night over dinner and dessert with my family.  Even my sister and brother-in-law from Michigan were at the dinner table via Skype! :)  Gotta love technology.  My Mom has given me so much, but one of things I am most grateful for is her example of true servanthood.  I can appreciate her sacrifice even more now that I am a mom and I am so grateful for her example in my life.  She is a beautiful, joy-filled woman you can't help but want to be around.  God's light is never hidden in her smile.  We are so blessed to have her and I am so thankful for her friendship.
I love you so much mom, Happy Birthday!!!

101

This is my 101st blog post!  I began this blog in October 2009 and it's accomplishing just what I hoped it would.  I can look back over the past year and a half and remember what life was about on days like January 14th, 2010.  Pretty cool.  One thing I didn't expect when I started to blog, was how much I would enjoy it.  This has been a wonderful creative outlet for me and a really cool way to keep a diary of sorts about what's been happening in our lives.  It's connected me to my family and friends and I've even made a few blog friends along the way :).
In case you're new to the blog, I'll give you a little 101 class (if you will) on what you can expect to read about here.

My husband :)

Our baby, Luke.  Cute cute little Luker

FOOD.  I love to try new recipes and practice my kitchen skills.  You'll see quite a few desserts around here :)

What's happening recently in my life.

What God is teaching me and lots of things I'm learning about.

and of course, lots and lots of silliness.

Thanks for reading and welcome!
