Dear Luke, 11 months

Dear Luke,

When people ask me about you, my response is almost always the same. I tell them you're the best, that you're such a pumpkin, and you are so much fun. It's pretty great I can say those things about you almost all the time. Last night, before your Dad and I went to sleep, we both peeked in on you and saw you sleeping with a little smirk on your face. We had to stop ourselves from laughing out loud so we didn't wake you up.  It was such a precious moment. When we crawled into bed that night, we both hugged each other and thanked God for you.
Guuuess whaaat? That pesky tooth that has been hiding for months finally came through! You have one cute-little-off-centered-tooth on the bottom and we are so relieved! No more toothless grin, but I gotta say, that little tooth is pretty cute. Especially since you try using it on all foods that make a crunch noise.  We've witnessed a few temper tantrums this month, refussal to take afternoon naps for 3 days in a row, and confirmation you do in fact understand the word "no". This month your personality has blossomed just a little more and there is no denying, you love to laugh. We can get you to giggle at pretty much anything and we do it a lot! Even when you're playing by yourself, you find all kinds of ways to make yourself laugh. We've noticed you are so much more engaged with the people and things around you. You notice all the ladies who smile at you in the grocery store, loud trucks that drive by, and the sound of the refrigerator door opening :).
Grandma and Grandpa Hoffman came to visit this month and they got to love all over you. They gave you your birthday present early and you use it everyday. You push that toy all over the place. When you are about to hit the wall you stop, look back at me, and usually scream indicating you want me to come and turn you around. You haven't tried to take any steps on your own yet, but we catch you all the time standing all by yourself in the middle of the room. I have a feeling your crawling days are numbered.
My favorite new thing this month are your kisses. You think it's a game to give kisses and will give me 10 in a row before getting bored with it. Talk about melting a mother's heart.
I have to take deep breath sometimes because your 1st birthday is almost here. I guess in my mind, when you turn 1 it officially takes you out of babyhood. Maybe that's not true, it's just this year has gone by so fast and I didn't expect how much I would love it. I guess as long as I catch you showing off those sweet baby-fat rolls on the back of your legs (as seen in this picture) I will feel like there is still some "baby time" left.
I love you so much, Luke.

Recently I'm...

Searching for ideas for Luke's 1st birthday party.  Thanks to Pinterest I have a multitude of ideas.  The trouble is, they are all different.  So far I am toying with a music theme, animal theme, and outdoor theme.  I have already made these for the party- how do they fit in you ask?  Got me? But I do have a fun way to use them :)

Nailing down vacation plans.  By the way, Thank You for your recommendations.  It got us even more excited about all the places we could explore.  We've nailed down a grand tour of the south, more details to come.

Making these because Rachel did, and they look too good not to bake immediately! :)

Excited about Eric's sister and her family coming to Nashville for their first visit!  So much to do. So little time.

Have you missed my rants about the delicious things I have tried lately?  Me too! ;) So let me introduce all you Nashville locals to Riff Burgers in Franklin.  Deliciously greasy- My favorite, their skinny onion rings.... MMMmmm.  My stomach is still making noises.

Heading to my very first rodeo on tonight!  Yeehaw!  I'm wearing my tightest jeans and my imaginary cowboy boots.... hmm?

I will be making MONKEY BREAD this weekend with my sweet niece and nephew, a morning tradition that cannot be broken.

Getting a spray tan.  Are you already nervous for me after reading that sentence?  I'll be honest, I've had one good experience and one BAD BAD BAD experience.  Let's just say it was similar to what happened to Ross from Friends when he decided to get a spray tan.  I know I am taking a HUGE risk, but I'm in a wedding and I am basically see-through right now.  If it's a choice between transparency and umpa lumpa, I figure one is not really worse than the other so it's worth the risk.  Let's hope for all who will be seeing me, I come out some-where in the middle.

Happy weekend!!

A horse of corse

The Kentucky Derby is this weekend and the hype about it has intensified this year (I believe) because of the Royal Wedding hat fascination.  Admit it, you have it too :)
I wish I were going so I could sport one of those big beauties!  I'm sure all 155,000 attendees have carefully chosen their ginormous-crazy-headwear so as not to be pegged worst dressed-
like poor Princess Beatrice of York.
In regards to the actual race, I will be routing for Anna Napravnik, the only woman jockey who will be riding a horse named
Pants on Fire.
Speaking of horses (like that carefully chosen transition?) If you haven't noticed, horse art is everywhere!  I must say, I find these large animals beautiful, but I've never thought to put a pic of one in my home. Well my eyes have been opened and I want one of these gorgeous gals displayed on one of my walls.  A picture of one that is, not a real one.  Take a look at these...

Alright everyone, grab your craziest hat and place your bets for the best hat-dawning-gal at the derby this weekend.  If only I were there, I could snap a snap of a gorgeous horse for my house and possibly wear the biggest hat ever made.  Oh well, maybe next year :)

Very Pinteresting

Anyone else joining this bandwagon?  I am ha-ooked!!  I swear I have had the concept of Pinterest in my head forever, but did not go forth with my smart-money-making-machine-internet-idea.  Kudos to you Pinterest inventors.... should've been me.  I digress.

Any who, If you haven't joined Pinterest you should.  It's the perfect place to house all things you LOVE and the best part is- all you have to do is click the pic and it will take you right to the sight where you got it from.  DIY heaven, recipes galore, and don't get me started on the home inspiration!  Anything your little heart desires, pinterest will keep track of it for you in an organized fashion.  And after seeing this mess in my home, you know I can use all the help I can get!  You can see all of the things I find beautiful and inspiring here.
I found this idea on Pinterest recently and completed this sweet little DIY tonight.
Happy Pinning :)
